Yes the graph is showing the last ten million years out of the total, not necessarily the current climate which would be a very small part of the last ten million years. Current changes are not going to show a spike up! Information can be used in many ways. And yes we lose lots of species every year. So should we try to help or not, because we as humans are affecting the earth and not necessarily in good ways. My 2 cents.
With all the volcanic activity going on around the globe we are for sure going through a cooling period and since more are happening almost weekly we are headed for a possible ice age in the next few years..
