I was a military air traffic controller watch supervisor (Tower) and we routinely washed out trainees who didn't poses the skills and abilities needed for the job. Some of those were the ability to think in a 3D moving model, be able to multitask and formulate plans for each aircraft 3 steps past the current situation, to include any and all emergencies, the ability to speak quickly, but clearly and use approved verbiage and the ability to maintain situational awareness at all times.
This job is where the equity idiots are exposed as hucksters and snake oil salesmen. Not all people are able to or qualified to do all jobs, no matter what they look like, who they sleep with, what they believe or how bad they want to do that job and we as a society are fools, for ever letting this get as bad as it has.
I agree! I know I couldn’t do that job bc I can’t react and speak quickly in an emergency situation. My husband on the other hand could do so easily. We are both intelligent people. Intelligence is certainly important in this profession but one needs a certain set of skills that not everyone has or can develop. You are handling people’s lives just like a surgeon and his team.

This is not uncommon or rare. It's called stepping on a transmission. If that were the case the helo would never have known the tower tried to talk to them and the tower would not have known their call wasn't received by the helo. Also, the NTSB said they were still investigating if they were using NODs (Night Optical Device), which isn't surprising, because they hate to commit to anything before their final report. This was all around Feb 14.
I also saw where they closed the helo corridors around the airport. That's smart, but there was no way they could've stood the scrutiny at the time, if they'd not taken that step. The thing is, those types of operations are common (they had 200' of separation) and work well to expedite traffic, but mistakes are made sooner or later.
I did hear/see stories about her or her families ties to bigger names on the left, as well as her doing non-flying duties during periods before the crash - but I didn't dive into it at the time so really that is "just what I heard".

Any job where a person is in charge of other people's physical safety, like a pilot, should only be given to the most qualified individuals based on ability, experience, merit. I wouldn't feel good knowing the hospital hired the trans doctor over more experienced doctors just because he was trans, etc.

Examples are apparent in people coming out of public schools that don’t know basic skills, teachers that didn’t have to pass continuing education levels, and for some states even medical students that didn’t have to pass entry level tests.
Of course the social pressures that instill cowardice in leadership and the generally weak people in our society, have produced accepting people with the smug attitude of ‘what are you going to believe, what I tell you or those lying eyes of yours’ !
How any intelligent person can believe DEI is the way forward to a better society needs to take a time-out from any position of authority until they come to their senses.
When I enlisted in the Army in 1972, the military was in poor financial shape because it was directing every conceivable dollar to Viet Nam. So to replenish the local fort’s supply of “incidental” truck drivers, they tested EVERYONE in the junior ranks. There was NO training before testing. Not even a 2 min familiarization with the controls of a heavy truck you’d never seen before. (I have no idea if any training was offered to those who passed.)
My point is that even in that asinine & dismal setting, they TESTED by an absolute standard.
I do not understand this post-2008 obsession with forcing untrained and ungifted people into positions where skill is critical to life & death. It leaves shattered lives & wreckage across the airfields and surrounding landscape, and in the control towers/ ATC centers as individuals realize their incompetence killed or maimed dozens or hundreds of people.
