Mamdani’s mother is a world-famous, Academy Award-nominated Bollywood director worth tens of millions of dollars. His father is a chaired professor at Columbia. He is, in effect, a perpetual theatre kid who’s pretending to be “Third World.” It’s all so, so performative + stupid.

Thing is, the people who voted for him have a similar profile: bad to no education in history, indoctrination at the government school and university level, comfortable upbringings, aimless and angry.

This is no different from AOC’s claim to be from the hood or Jasmine Crockett’s for that matter.
